NomadCalc Chrome Extension · Last updated: June 25, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how NomadCalc (the Chrome extension developed by Akifumi Yoshimura) handles information when you use the extension. NomadCalc helps you estimate what you will actually pay for a price you select on a page, including optional fees, tax, shipping, and card charges.

Summary

Information the extension processes

Text you select

When you trigger a conversion, NomadCalc reads the text you have selected on the active tab (for example, a price). It may enrich the selection with a nearby currency symbol from the page DOM when a site splits the symbol and amount into separate elements. Selected text is processed to detect currency and amount. It is not uploaded as page content, and we do not collect full page snapshots.

Settings and conversion history

The extension stores data locally on your device, including:

You can clear this data by removing the extension or clearing extension data in chrome://extensions.

Location (optional)

Location is optional. If you allow it, NomadCalc uses your device’s geolocation to suggest a local currency and nearby countries. Coordinates are resolved to a country code on your device (using a built-in country lookup). For the Nearby feature, country code, currency code, and coordinates may be saved locally in Chrome storage. Location data is not sent to our servers.

Exchange-rate API

To fetch current exchange rates, the extension’s background service worker sends read-only requests to our FX rate API at nomadcalc-fx-rate-api.akifumi.workers.dev. These requests retrieve public rate tables only. They do not include your selected prices, browsing history, or personal identifiers.

Optional site access (selection overlay)

NomadCalc does not request access to all websites during setup. If you enable the selection overlay on a site from the popup, you may grant optional host permission for that site so a small overlay can appear when you select a price. You control which sites receive this permission through Chrome’s extension permission UI.

Permissions and why they are used

What we do not do

Data retention

Data stored locally remains on your device until you clear extension storage or uninstall NomadCalc. Server-side FX rate logs, if any, are limited to operational data needed to serve public rate endpoints and do not include your selections or browsing activity.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the extension changes. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the latest version. Continued use of the extension after an update means you accept the revised policy.
